The Wild

And I’ve fallen into the wild
delight of silenced memories
which haunt the edge
of the courtyard where our eyes met
so lovely, our young and supple intent
The bark is my savior, my Rapunzel tower
no hunter’s arrow shall taint me now
no broken twigs shall tick the hour
I’ll stand like fawn,
descend into the nest of night
that gathers me in its stillness
So I hold my breath until the aching comes
golden waves softly round my cheek
the cold grasps my tiny feet
and just as I realize defeat
your voice brings me to the surface
of the darkened lake
